Wild Outside

This week's Wild Wednesday is straight from the balcony. I'm feeling rather proud as my hard work from earlier seasons is paying off now. I find each and every flower so exciting. What was a building site a year ago is now home to bees, butterflies, moths, spiders, flies, ladybirds and yes, even aphids. Yay.

Days off

Today's Wild Wednesday consists of pictures from my days off two weeks ago: a chaffinch at Becky Falls, a giant butterfly at Buckfast Butterflies, a bee on a flower in Torquay, and a cuddly hedgehog buried in marbles at The House Of Marbles.

Wild Wednesday on the Farm

We visited Riverford today. Yup. We went to see where our vegetables are born. Soon there will be a post on our field kitchen meal but for starters have some fruit.

Plums, blackcurrants, rhubarb and - for a change of pace - our first home grown tomato.

Throwing koans

We went away from my birthday so we missed wild Wednesday. Instead here are some offerings from Chester Zoo's (an annual birthday thing) green houses and gardens.

Yeah, as well as being an amazing zoo full of well kept animals with many successful breeding programmes Chester Zoo is also committed to plants.

The gardens and the plants in and around the animal exhibits are truly fascinating. I enjoyed seeing the medicinal plants such as tea tree and eucalyptus up close as well as what some of my herbs (pictured: chives) will look like when they grow up.

So we popped in the green house for a quick visit. The orchids, cacti, carnivorous plants and other tropical yummies kept our cameras occupied.

Unfortunately some of the most adorably coloured flowers weren't real These fabric flowers had a small cup inside for feeding the butterflies of the show stopping butterfly house.

Some of the other animal exhibits had tantalizing horticultural displays. This one I was tempted to pick. I've never had a Durian before but I'd love to try some.

Wild West Wednesday

The Guide holiday I went on last weekend had a wild west theme so we'd arranged for the girls to visit The Miniature Pony Centre. I'm not sure if it is a day out I'd choose for myself but it was certainly fun and had plenty of adorable animals. Like this four.

Wild Wednesday: Blossom

Today's Wild Wednesday theme is blossom. All these were seen around Cockington on Saturday. The first is also available through my DeviantArt page.

Yellow

This weekend we went to Cockington along our usual rout. Down to the harbour, along the seafront, up through the water meadows, through the lakes. In my spring excitement I took a picture of everything in bloom. Here is a selection of the yellows. I only know what the Daffodils are. Anyone any clue?

Hamsters

This week's Wild Wednesday isn't really wild, but tame. These are our new Roborovski dwarf hamsters, Cuddles and Kisses.

Wild Wednesday returns

We stopped Wild Wednesday when we thought view of rain from windowsill sounded dull. Now we can actually get outside on a regular basis it's time to get going again.

Although I am cheating. These pictures are from Florida. The butterfly accommodated me by staying still outside our hotel room in Port Orleans Riverside, the flower and the duck come from Animal Kingdom and the fourth is taken inside Harambe Wildlife Reserve.

Oh Noes

This week's wild wednesday is a bit of a bust, owing to the fact that I have a tummy bug. It's a cactus.
