Gourmet Torbay: Veg of the World

Stokes is a grocery chain in the south west and we are lucky enough to have one in Torquay. Lucky enough because they stock the town's selection of exotic produce. It's where I got the plantains, the pumpkin and where you can get much more, both exotic and locally grown.

I bought sweet potatoes this week for sweet potato pasties from Flavour You can tell by looking at them that I'm not a local but they tasted good.

This week us the third Vegan Mofo week and it's also End Fat Talk Week. So I'd like to ask the visiting vegans and everyone else to join me in thinking about what they are saying and stop putting down themselves and other people. And, as this is a food blog, can we stop it with the food guilt too? Describing something as a heart attack on a plate or saying you have to eat a salad to make up for ice cream, or detox after eating fast food for a week... that sort of thing. Please.

  1. Loved what you said: "Describing something as a heart attack on a plate or saying you have to eat a salad to make up for ice cream, or detox after eating fast food for a week..."

AMEN! Seriously - I'm a vegan (found your blog through VeganMofo!) and I encourage others to explore the vegan lifestyle because I truly don't think it can do any harm to anyone. However - just as I get put off by people commenting on me eating "rabbit food" or "boring food" (so not true) I know that omnivores feel the same way about "heart attack on a plate" comments. Let's all treat each other and our respective lifestyle/dietary choices with respect.

    Fabulous post! :)

  2. Cheers! But of course it isn't just an omni vs. vegan issue. There is plenty of self hatred in both camps.
